How
it works
|
|
The BookEMart is provided
as a free service to connect buyers to personal sellers of second
hand books. It is a great way to get rid of those old texts and
other books cluttering up the house. You can use the service either
to sell books you have or to locate books you want to obtain.
The way it works is really simple...
- You register an
account to manage titles you wish to sell or locate
- You use your account
to add and modify titles to be listed
- Buyers search the
Titles Submitted for Sale to locate titles of interest
- Buyers contact you
to negotiate the sale terms and collection using the email address
displayed on the listing and your general location (where you
are located will obviously affect any decision to purchase).
Note that your address and telephone numbers are not
published.
- Sellers can search
the Titles Wanted to Buy listings to see if they have
matching titles to sell
Please Note
The titles are not held by us here - we do not sell books
or stock any of the titles listed.
It is up to buyers and sellers to negotiate directly the terms
of the sale. This site merely connects buyers to sellers.
Management Policy
Titles for Sale are placed on line for a period of
six months. If the title is not accessed by a prospective buyer
during the last two months it will be Lapsed. A Lapsed title can
be re-activated once you access it from your account and update
the Status. Titles not re-activated within one month of being
Lapsed will be deleted from the system.
Titles Wanted
are placed on-line for 12 months. If the title is not accessed
by a prospective seller during the last two months it will be
Lapsed. As with Titles for Sale, the Status can be changed once
the title has been Lapsed.
We take no responsibility
for the accuracy of information submitted by sellers nor for the
bona fides of buyers.

| Searching
for Titles |
|
|
Titles are classified
as Submitted for Sale or Wanted to Buy.
Titles For Sale are books currently held by sellers whereas those
Wanted To Buy are titles being sought. You must search titles
using one of these classifications.
Listings can be searched
by Title, Author, Type of Book, and Classification in any combination.
For example, searching for "The Magic Faraway Tree"
by Enid Blyton would be successful by using the title exactly,
or 'Faraway Tree'. You could also find all books by Enid Blyton
by typing "Blyton" into the author category.
Searches are NOT case
sensitive - "Faraway" is treated the same as "FARAWAY"
by the search-engine.
Searches are more effective
if you provide as much search information as possible. The fastest
response would be obtained by typing "Magic Faraway Tree"
in Title, "Blyton" in Author, and choosing "Children's
Books" from the Category list. The more information you supply,
the faster the search will run.
Titles are returned
as a list in batches of twenty per page. To browse listings spanning
more than one page, step through the pages using the Next
and Previous buttons. To examine a particular title, click
the hyperlink button next to the title. You can also use the Next
and Previous buttons to step through individual titles
on the Detail view.

Registering
a new Account
|
|
|
You must establish
an Account if you intend to submit titles you have to sell or
you are trying to find.
To establish an account you must provide your name, a valid email
address, a contact address, a location, and a telephone number.
Only your email address and location
(eg. nearest suburb or town) will be published on the site
- all other details are stored securely and are confidential.
You cannot access the listings of other users nor can they access
yours (your personal details will not be made available to any
other organisation or individual under any circumstances).
To ensure this security,
you must assign a Password to access your account. Please
make sure you remember your password! You will need
to use this password any time you wish to access your listings
to make changes or add new titles. You can modify your details
at any time but you cannot change your email address or password.
If your email account changes for some reason you may create another
account, or contact us directly if you want your account modified.
To make changes to your account, select the Account button
after logging in.
You should ensure that
you use a secure password (eg. mixed upper and lower case, numbers
and text etc.) because your account name (ie. your email address)
is published. Don't use obvious passwords (like "password")
to protect your account.
To create an Account

page.

Managing
Titles from your account
|
|
|
Once you have placed
titles on line they are automatically available to buyers and
sellers to search.
It is important that you manage your account because a
title is automatically Lapsed (ie. removed from the available
titles) if it is not accessed during
the last two months.
"Access"
is defined as the process of loading the record to the Title Detail
screen after a search. You can keep track of the access to a title
by looking at the History which gives the last access date and
number of times it has been displayed. Note that accessing the
record from your account does not constitute "access".
A title is accessed only after performing a Search.
Important!
Lapsed Titles cannot be found from the Search.
Only you can access Lapsed Titles using your account. |
Once a title is lapsed
it will be deleted from the system automatically after a further
calendar month unless you choose to re-list
it. The criteria for deleting titles are:
- The title is For
Sale and has been listed for six months, or
The title is Wanted To Buy and has been listed for twelve
months
- The title has been
set as "Withdrawn", "Sold", or "Lapsed"
for one month or longer
If you wish to ensure
your titles remain on-line you will need to reactivate them before
they are deleted. You can do this by logging into your account
and editing the entry - use the Edit Title button after
accessing the title from your Titles List.
Once titles have been deleted they cannot
be recovered.
This policy is to ensure
that the listings turn over regularly either through sales or
expiry.
To manage titles you
should:
- Login to your account
- List the titles
in your account
- Load the title you
wish to modify
- Select Edit Title
and make any changes, including changing the status - this can
be set to "For Sale", "Wanted", "Lapsed",
"Withdrawn", or "Sold".
It is
important that you ensure any sold items are updated promptly
so that you don't get unwanted inquiries.
